Logical implications between fundamental properties of relativistic quantum theories
Résumé
In order to clarify the issues concerning the compatibility of quantum mechanics with special relativ- ity, a consistency condition constraining any relativistic quantum theory is formulated. It turns out to be equivalent to the locality of physics as well as, in the context of quantum field theory, microcausality, thereby revealing that these are actually two redundant hypotheses. It also promotes an epistemic in- terpretation of the wavefunction collapse and provides a new proof of the non-measurability of fermionic fields. Retracing in detail the history of this topic reveals the essential contribution of quantum infor- mation theory to the foundations of quantum mechanics.
